Step 1
Start by combining the sugar, flour, and vanilla in a heavy-bottomed pot. Mix well to ensure there are no lumps. Slowly add the milk while whisking continuously.
Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly until it comes to a boil. Continue cooking for an additional 3-4 minutes until it thickens. Remove from heat, cover with plastic wrap directly on the surface, and let it cool completely in a cool place.
Step 2
In a large bowl, whisk the eggs with a pinch of salt and the sugar until the mixture becomes thick and white, which should take about 5-6 minutes. Then, add the honey and vegetable oil to the egg mixture.
Gradually fold in the sifted flour and baking soda until fully incorporated. Divide the batter into three equal portions. To one part, add 4-5 drops of pink (or red) food coloring, and to another, add cocoa powder for a chocolate flavor.
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Pour the batter into prepared cake pans and bake for about 6-7 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let the layers cool completely.
Step 3
In a separate bowl, beat the room temperature butter for 3-4 minutes until light and fluffy. Add the cooled custard base to the butter, one tablespoon at a time, and continue to beat until the mixture is smooth and uniform.
Ensure that all the ingredients are at the same temperature to prevent the cream from separating.
