Step 1
Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two round cake pans with a diameter of 8 inches (20 cm).
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy. This should take about 3-5 minutes.
Add in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, stir in the vanilla extract.
In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
Once baked, allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Step 2
To make the white chocolate ganache, chop the white chocolate into small pieces and place it in a mixing bowl.
In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Do not let it boil.
Pour the hot cream over the chopped white chocolate and let it sit for a few minutes before stirring until smooth.
Let the ganache cool until it reaches room temperature and thickens slightly; this will take about 30 minutes.
Step 3
Once the cakes have cooled completely, use a serrated knife to level the tops if needed.
Place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread a generous layer of the ganache on top.
Carefully place the second cake layer on top and apply a thin coat of ganache around the sides and top of the cake to create a smooth surface. This is called the crumb coat.
Chill the cake in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to set the ganache.
Step 4
After the crumb coat has set, use the remaining ganache to apply a final layer over the top and sides of the cake.
Take your rice paper daisies and using warm ganache, secure them to the sides and top of the cake. Be sure to apply the ganache on a chilled cake for the best results.
Feel free to arrange the daisies in a pattern or cluster for an eye-catching decoration. Once decorated, allow the ganache to fully set before serving.
