Step 1
Start by mixing the dry ingredients. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Mix well until evenly distributed.
Next, in another bowl, whisk together the warm milk, butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and lemon zest. Create a well in the center of the dry mixture and pour in the wet ingredients.
Stir until a rough dough forms, and then knead it for about 10-15 minutes on a floured surface until it is smooth and elastic.
Step 2
Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl. Cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap to prevent it from drying out. Allow it to rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.

After the first rise, punch down the dough to release excess air. Gently incorporate the chopped pistachios into the dough. Shape it into a ball and place it into a panettone mold or a high-sided cake pan.
Cover the dough and let it rise again for about 1 hour, until it fills the mold.

Preheat your oven to 175 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit). Once the dough has risen, transfer the panettone to the oven.
Bake for approximately 30-40 minutes, or until it is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom. If the top browns too quickly, you can loosely cover it with aluminum foil.
Step 5
Remove the panettone from the oven and allow it to cool in the mold for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack.
