Carefully dip the orange slices into the hot syrup and allow them to simmer for about 20-30 minutes. This process will soften the skin while keeping the slices intact.
Once done, remove the orange slices and let them cool on a wire rack.

In a mixing bowl, beat the softened unsalted butter with sugar and salt using a mixer until the mixture is fluffy and creamy.
Add the eggs one at a time, making sure to mix well after each addition. This will help incorporate air into the batter.
Next, zest the remaining orange and squeeze its juice. Add both the zest and juice to the batter and mix until combined.

Fold in the chia seeds and vanilla extract, ensuring everything is well mixed.
Step 3
Line a 20-centimeter (8-inch) round cake pan with parchment paper. Arrange the caramelized orange slices at the bottom of the pan.
Pour the cake batter over the top of the arranged orange slices, spreading it evenly.
